IN THE NEWS -
To help more FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYERS become homeowners, the Community Housing Trust of Monterey County will begin taking applications for its first-time homebuyer assistance program starting February 7, 2007.

“The Community Housing Trust of Monterey County is organized and ready to start raising additional funds for its innovative approach to help solve the critical problem of housing affordability in Monterey County,” said Ken Steen, President of Community Housing Trust of Monterey County.

The award of $100,000 from the California Association of REALTORS® Housing Affordability Fund will give the Community Housing Trust of Monterey County the ability to begin helping Monterey County families buy homes within the next 60 to 90 days. The C.A.R. Housing Affordability Fund was established in 2002 in response to REALTOR® concerns about housing affordability throughout California.  According to 2006 C.A.R President Vince Malta “HAF raises funds through voluntary contributions from REALTORS® throughout California to fund innovative housing affordability programs to help more families afford homes.”

Representatives of the Monterey County Association of REALTORS® (MCAR) and the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) presented a check for $100,000 to the Community Housing Trust of Monterey County (CHTMC) during a press conference in 2006.

The Community Housing Trust of Monterey County is organized to develop private sector financial resources to apply to home purchase down payment assistance to Monterey County families.

Community Housing Trust of Monterey County will also make pre-development loans to non-profit homebuilders to increase and accelerate development of affordable housing in Monterey County.

Monterey County Workforce Housing will also develop private sector resources for downpayment assistance to Monterey County families and predevelopment loans to increase or accelerate affordable housing projects.  Monterey County Workforce Housing will be the primary vehicle for providing homebuying help to Monterey County workforce families.
